Sentence

Some definitions of sentence :
Ø  Sentence is a grammatical unit.
Ø  Sentence is a group of word that consist of Subject +Predicate ±Objeck ±Complement and has a complete thought identify by final intonation. E.g. Go! Or Get out!
Ø  Independent linguistics item
Ø  Sentence is only a predicate. E.g. go!
Types of sentences divided into 5 types based on the characteristics

1.    Types of sentences based on Number of clauses, divided into :
a.    Simple sentence
Simple sentence is a sentence that consist of one independent clause. Example I go to school
b.    Complex sentence

Complex sentence is a sentence that consist of one independent clause and one independent clause or sentence that consist of one independent clause and one or more independent clause. Example : I will come if you invite me. In this example, I will come is the main clause, while If you invite me is subordinate clause.
c.    Compound sentence
Compound sentence is a sentence that consists of two or more independent clause and identified by conjunction/relater/connector. For example, Jane study math and John study English.
d.    Complex compound sentence
Complex compound sentence is a sentence that formed by grouping complex sentence with compound sentence. The boy who using red hat is an artist and he is a bachelor  in Math science.
2.     Types of sentences based on Internal Structure, divided into :
a.    Complete sentence
Complete sentence is a sentence that has Subject and Predicate.
b.    Incomplete sentence
Incomplete sentence is a sentence that only has a predicate. For example go!, get out! Or stand up!
3.    Types of sentences based on Response Expected, the sentence classified into :
a.    Statement is just like complete sentence.
b.    Question is a sentence that we use to ask question, divided into yes/no question, a question that need answered by yes or no and explanation question, a question that answered by giving explanation.
c.    Command is a sentence that we use to give a command. For example, Open the door!
4.    Types of sentences based on the nature of actor action relationship, the sentence classified into :
a.    Active sentence is the sentence that the object receive the action that stated by the verb
b.    Passive sentence is the sentence that the subject receive the action that stated by the verb
5.    Types of sentences based on Presence or absence of negatives in the main verb phrase, the sentence classified into :
a.    Affirmative sentence is the sentence that doesn’t contain any negative elements
b.    Negative sentence is the sentence that contains negative elements, form by adding not to certain auxiliaries.
